CONARIUM - A Lovecraft’s horror game
Hi there!
Some time ago Epic Games Store offered for free Conarium, a game that caught my attention since its development began. Finally, I have been able to play and finish this great work of the studio Zoetrope Interactive (now extinct).
This is a small review for those interested:
Conarium is a chilling Lovecraftian game, which follows a gripping story involving four scientists and their endeavor to challenge what we normally consider to be the ‘absolute’ limits of nature. Inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s novella "At the Mountains of Madness", but largely set after the original story.
The story at first seems chaotic and although throughout the game it develops, in my opinion it could have been done better... but after all it is based on Lovecraft works, what can be expected more than madness and chaos!
For me it's not a horror game, rather a dark atmosphere game with some moments of action, but not horror.
In general it's a very simple and linear game (It seems more like a walking simulator with interactive parts), with very beautiful and strange environments that, together with music, immerse you in history. The puzzles are quite simple but well implemented and consistent with the story. You must read documents, listen to recordings and find objects to advance, although the inventory system is very simple.
Finishing it took me 4h and 30min (approx.), so it's not very extensive. I found it attractive (and advisable) because of the history and the beautiful environments, made with Unreal Engine 4.
If you are interested in knowing more or buying it you have it in Steam and Epic Store at € 20:
Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/313780/Conarium/
Epic Store: https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-US/product/conarium/home
I hope my opinion helps you give this game a chance!
See you!
