Short project for Post-Apocalyptic Jam 2017
First topic message reminder :
There I go!
Ok, as I explained in the jam thread I want to create something short and focused in the narrative but of course the graphics will be very important... you know
This week I have working in the story and finally I think I have something interesting but I want to polish it, Only I can say that it has to see with the overpopulation of the planet. Anyway I will publish it on Monday surely... be patient
Regarding the atmosphere and the style, I have searching some inspiration in games such Fallout, The last of us, Mad Max and Rage, where the world is devastated and a few people survive the hecatomb.
Here some images that I will use as reference:
The mechanics and other aspects of the project are still unclear but will surely be the same as my other creations, simple and easy, like a walking simulator.
And this is all for the moment, I just want to share my initial feelings about this short project, I hope you like it

Re: Short project for Post-Apocalyptic Jam 2017
Hi there!
A small status update:
The level of the bunker is almost finished, now I'm working in the menu but as always the programming is tormenting me.. buuut now I have more experience and every time is less complicated (I'm very happy for this).
My first idea was two playable levels (the interior of the bunker and the camp of outside) but I think that I can't do the exterior level due to lack of time (as always), so I'm working to enlarge the level of the bunker. This means that we can not go outside, not in this demo.
Also, this week I want to create de Itch.io page to show to the world my entry, I'll let you know when it's published.
The jam finish in 5 days, I think I can do it!
And this is all for now.

Good news then
The interior of the bunker will be more than enough for a demo jam. Can't wait to get lost in the dark!
Good luck Juanjo!!

Re: Short project for Post-Apocalyptic Jam 2017
Ok, after a hard work I think the entry is ready to be announced officially:
https://blurredgames.itch.io/the-world-after-the-end
As I said I have enlarged the bunker level to make the game longer (a little). Now you can freely explore the bunker and discover part of the background story... To be honest the story gives for much more but it is a jam and I have not been able to do more, so I hope you like it and who knows... the story could continue...
As you can imagine this is a walking simulator with a few interactive elements, sorry for the language errors, as I said I have not been able to do more. Maybe later I publish a slightly more polished version.
I will not continue the development but if you find serious errors you can tell me and I will try to fix them.
Thanks to all for your support and your comments during the development, I really appreciate them.
And now it's time to play!
Enjoy!

Re: Short project for Post-Apocalyptic Jam 2017
Thanks a lot for sharing your project Juanjo!
I have downloaded and played the demo. The visuals are very impressive. I really liked the designs in the bunker (even if too dark on my screen). There are very interesting ideas for the ambiance (flickering lights, rotors, etc). Well done!
The story too is good. Too bad that you couldn't tell more, but at least I was happily surprised to discover that it is possible to interact with different objects. This is really a good improvement compared to your previous demos! It was fun to seek for the fuse and use it.
Is it possible to do something with the film at the beginning, or is it just here for tests purposes?
For me it's your best prototype since Iborea! I loved Iborea, it was very promising and beautiful. TWATED is very different but I like the ambiance like in Fallout or The Last of Us. I think it's successfully recreated. Congrats!
Will there be votes after the jam ends?

Re: Short project for Post-Apocalyptic Jam 2017
WOW! Thank you so much Simon for playing so fast!
And thanks for your kind words about the game, I've tried to make it a little more interactive. I would have liked to have added more interactive objects and tell more about the story.
About the film, my first idea was that you could use it in a projector but it was too complex and I didn't have time to do it.
Voting will be public, i.e. anyone can vote, not just participants. And starts tomorrow after 2:00 PM, when the jam ends.
Thanks to all in advance if you decide to vote my entry
And from now I'm officially on holidays, so until September... cerveza y piscina!!

Re: Short project for Post-Apocalyptic Jam 2017
I might just vote as well?
Is it a float or "Water Wings"?
First of all Beer and Sausages, now Beer and Fish, next Beer and Steak?

I can't see where the shark is in this picture? I thought that a Juanjo holiday was supposed to finish with blood and terrible events...

Wow Juanjo! That was an amazing demo The story is intriguing and I loved the ambience and effects they really add to the realism of being in a stuffy old bunker. Also as Simon mentioned finding the fuse was a nice little treat. I hope to see you expand on this someday Great job, you got my vote!

Thanks Josiah!
Yes, maybe in the future I will finish the development seems that there are people very interested in seeing that there are in the coordinates of the final message... The location is real, you can find it in Google Maps

I didn't even think to look up the coordinates. Svalbard seed vault, I've heard about it. Neat to put that in there!

Thank you so much to all for your support and congratulations to "Like roots in the soil" for winning!
Is the first time that I get a position among the first 3, I'm very happy!
A fantastic end to a great vacation end! (I must return on August 28)

Re: Short project for Post-Apocalyptic Jam 2017
Wow!!! Congrats Juanjo, it was deserved!
I'll go check what is this game (roots in the soil) that got the first place, by curiosity.
Happy holiday ending!
Edit:
Ok, the roots in the soil game looks like a very experimental project, with a fine art, so I am not surprised that it won. Many people seem to look for refreshing and creative ideas in the indie scene after all. Yet it's not as impressive as your project Juanjo In the future if you can add more gameplay (interactions, story), you will be able to win all the jams!

Re: Short project for Post-Apocalyptic Jam 2017
Thanks Simon and Roger!
Yes, I think the jams are good place to experiment without fear... In the past I tried to experiment with other styles (like The Mystic Journey of Atriom) and I always learn something, that's why I love jams!!
But as always the time is a handicap and not always you can do what you really want... but this is the essence of the jams!
