Luminy Stud... oops no! Luminous Productions - New demo in partnership with Nvidia Empty Luminy Stud... oops no! Luminous Productions - New demo in partnership with Nvidia

Today Square Enix has revealed a new technical demo created by their studio Luminous Productions, in partnership with Nvidia. It is based on their own game engine, Luminous Engine, and here they say it uses raytracing technology (honestly I don't see what it changes in this demo?)

Today, at the CEDEC 2019 Japanese video game developer conference, the Luminous team unveiled a new technology demonstration video of its proprietary engine, the so-called Luminous Engine. Entitled Back Stage, it is in direct line with the previous technological demos created by the Luminous team, namely the famous Agni's Philosophy (2012) and Witch Chapter 0 (2015).

Back Stage (2019)

Designed in partnership with Nvidia to demonstrate the capabilities of its GeForce RTX 2080 Ti graphics card - which powers this video - the demo is primarily designed to announce the engine's compatibility with ray tracing technology, and more specifically with a rendering algorithm called path tracing. A term that has been increasingly present in the discussions of video game developers in recent years, ray tracing is a method of calculating the lighting of a scene based on the real-time management of the paths of light rays. Sony and Microsoft have already announced that their next-generation consoles - expected next year - will be compatible with this technology.

As a reminder, these were their 2 previous technology demos from 2012 and 2015:

Agni's Philosophy (2012)

and

Witch Chapter 0 (2015)

What do you think? This studio was also behind Final Fantasy XV. Even though this game was far from the best in the series, I think they have proved their talent in graphics.

Final Fantasy XV (2016)

Edit:
I have no confirmation but I think they are also behind this 2018 Square Enix Demo:

Ahah yes Rehvaro, it was a joke, I played with the name of the studios.
Luminy Studios --> Juanjo (still indie dev, unless he has a secret!)
Luminous Productions --> Square Enix studio working with Nvidia

All those micro facial expressions on her face are very disturbing.. They still have a problem with the animation. But the rendering is great.
