The World of Pah (Adventure Jam 2017) [Juanjo]
First topic message reminder :
UPDATED
As you all know I have had a complicated week and due to this I have not been able to work on my entry for Adventure Jam 2017, so I had to change my original idea for a less complicated and simpler one.
I hope you like it!
STORY:
We are Pah, a minor God who inhabits in the floating islands, an idyllic and perfect place, without obligations or rules... a perfect world, our world. One day we wake up and discover a wooden bridge that was not there before and seems to have no end. Who put that bridge there? And why now? What is on the other side? Do we really want to leave our wonderful world?
Only crossing the bridge we will discover what mystery is hidden behind him and perhaps we can find out who and why has put it there.
The World of Pah is a contemplative first person exploration game that has been created by one person in 15 days for Adventure Jam 2017, so the experience will be very simple but I hope you have fun and enjoy!
I also created the page in Game Jolt, so if you want to follow the development progress you can visit it:
http://gamejolt.com/games/pah/254186
Anyway I will try to share here the progress.
And this is all for the moment, I'm super happy and excited... I can finally start with the development!
PS: As always sorry for my English... you know ;-)

Re: The World of Pah (Adventure Jam 2017) [Juanjo]
Thanks Simon!
And Roger thank you so much for your kind words
Today has been a very productive day, the floating islands are almost finished, this is the last WIP image:
Adding some ruins, more vegetation and playing with camera effects and lighting.
I hope to finish this world tomorrow and Monday start with the second world (the land of mortals) but there is still a lot of work to do (mechanics, menus, music, interactable objects...).
I think I will finish on time ... I hope

Thanks Josiah and Simon!
I'm using some old models to go faster (especially vegetation), retouch the textures and sometimes I also modify the meshes a bit to adapt them to the world.
This world is almost finished, I just need to do the house of Pah but I have not very clear how to do it yet

New devlog entry (with new screenshots)!
http://gamejolt.com/games/pah/254186/devlog/project-progress-ii-hmebu5em
The land of mortals is almost finished... this world has more work, is bigger and has the village... I've had to make some models from scratch, but they were simple (like the hand statue and some elements of the village).
This project has been very useful, I'm learning a lot about the lighting and the camera effects... it's exciting!
Stay tuned for more updates

The World of Pah listed in the Screenshot Saturday Highlights (May 13th, 2017) section of IndieGames.com!

Hahaha, it's silly but encourages me!

Arrrggg!! I'm stuck with the programming... as always. Fighting with the main menu... I hope to have it ready tonight ... I hope.
Tomorrow I want to start with the rest of the elements like interactuable objects and minor touches.
I do not know if I can do it... but I'll try!

Ahah I'm stuck with the programming too. My main menu don't show!!
I've spent too much time in 3dsmax on the graphics, and now I'm very late.
I think that my game will have only 2 minutes of gameplay, *if* I can release anything at all
I need at least 5 more days!

Great! I want to play it, the background looks peaceful and beautiful.
Re: The World of Pah (Adventure Jam 2017) [Juanjo]
At the moment I write this entry is 17 hours left for the end of the Adventure Jam 2017, unfortunately I think it’s very difficult for me to finish in time the entire game. From the beginning everything was difficult…
As I said in the last article of the devlog I’m stuck with the programming, I have made progress but I am very slow. I have almost finished the main menu but there are a lot of things to do…
I don’t know if I can do it (probably not) but I will try to publish something before the deadline of the jam.
Wish me luck, I will need it!

Good luck Juanjo!!!!
Same problems here for me... As I expected, programming with Visionaire is very slow (which always proved true with both ASA-R and Catyph...). I should have made the game with Adventure Maker!
Anyway I will publish a short demo, just to show the 2 or 3 first minutes of the game, the concept and gameplay.

Re: The World of Pah (Adventure Jam 2017) [Juanjo]
Guys,
Let us be honest. The fact that you keep entering these Jams with such superb concepts is worthy of praise on its own!
If I ever win the lottery, I am totally determined that TheIcehouse will become a serious developer! With the talent that is in this collective, we should just blow away even Cyan!

Simon, I wish you luck too!
Roger, you're right, participating in this jams I'm feel really free and give me some break from other bigger and routine projects... but in this case I started bad and I tried to recover the lost time, but sometimes the things don't go the way we want.
But repeat, I'm very happy with my work! I have learned a lot.

Re: The World of Pah (Adventure Jam 2017) [Juanjo]
Even if there is no puzzle, no programming, and only a beautiful island to visit, your game will still be one of the best
Re: The World of Pah (Adventure Jam 2017) [Juanjo]
Guys.
Congrats on what you have achieved.
I have an exam tomorrow, and I am less prepared than what you have both done. Total Respect!

Roger best of luck for your exam! Keep us updated!
Re: The World of Pah (Adventure Jam 2017) [Juanjo]
Well, I didn't want to publish anything because I'm not happy with result... but finally I have decided publish something to show a very small part of the game.
You only can visit the floating island, walk around and contemplating the landscape... there are no intereactive elements, no menu... only a beautiful walking simulator.
As I said this jam has been difficult from the beginning, so I think I have only been able to work in the game for about 7 days in total... not sufficient.
You can download the game from here:
http://gamejolt.com/games/pah/254186
At least I hope you enjoy the experience!
Thanks to all for your support

Re: The World of Pah (Adventure Jam 2017) [Juanjo]
Yeah!! I will play this morning, congrats Juanjo! I'll let you know my thoughts.
Don't worry, I totally understand the problems you met in the development (mainly reasons why I still work in 2D with Visionaire). It's good news that you could finally publish somethign in the end.
When you look at the full list of released games (126!), there doesn't seem to be a lot of great games to try. Adventure Jam 2017 may not be very memorable.

Thanks Simon for your kind words!
As you said I think that this jam will not be memorable, a lot of games but poor quality for 15 days of development and most with teams of 2 and 4 persons, even more.
But 126 games is not bad!
About my entry... you don't expect much, as I said it's a very simple walking simulator.
